We will discuss sharpening Methods (oil stones, water stones, diamond plates, and sandpaper) sharpening Angles, bevel up versus bevel down applications, as well as common jigs and guides. We will not cover hand saws nor carving tools.
Please feel free to bring a plane and/or chisel from your shop that you feel requires attention, as well as any honing guides you might own.. Dress warmly as we occupy an unheated concrete warehouse beside the river, and wear shoes that will protect you if you drop a newly sharpened blade on your foot. The course will run from 10 AM to 2 PM, so bring a thermos and lunch if so inclined.
The objective of the course is to give you the hands-on opportunity to bring a poorly or non functioning tool back to a better than new condition, and to be able to recognize when your tools need attention and what to do about it.
Note: Bring your planes, chisels and any sharpening devices that you have.
